Guardian of Balance

Martin Repa

In the infinite ether, far beyond the boundaries of time and space, lies a world called Aequoris. Ancient and mysterious, it is woven from delicate threads of energy that connect everything living and non-living. It is a land no ordinary mortal has ever seen, endless yet enclosed, tranquil yet full of silent movement. There is no sun or moon in its sky, but the sky itself pulses with soft light that shifts colors like the breath of an unseen being. The surface of Aequoris is elusive, sometimes resembling a boundless sea, other times rising into endless mountain ranges disappearing into mist. Occasionally, the land itself seems to change, as if responding to the footsteps of those who inhabit it. This world is home to Karma, a being that is neither human nor divine, but something beyond all categories.

At the center of Aequoris stands the Chromosphere, a massive, pulsating orrery that records the deeds of all beings across the universe. It appears as a vast sphere of black metal that absorbs light, yet occasionally its surface flickers with a glow, as if reflecting events occurring in a distant corner of the cosmos. The Chromosphere is in constant motion, its movements accompanied by muted tones reminiscent of distant bells. Every action, every word, every flicker of thought is etched into its infinite dials. These dials do not rotate uniformly, some spin rapidly, others remain almost still, as if waiting for something significant. The inscriptions within the Chromosphere are not letters or images but streams of energy, whose meanings are known only to Karma. No one knows who created the Chromosphere or why. Not even Karma has the answer. She only knows that its silent pulses are the voice of the universe striving to maintain balance.

Karma takes the form of a woman, but her eyes are deeper than oceans, reflecting the destinies of entire worlds. Her skin is pale, like moonlight, her hair woven from darkness, and her voice is like the whisper of wind through a cave. She is clothed in a robe of stars that changes colors with her emotions: crimson for anger, white for justice, and black when it is time to judge.

She does not eat or drink, for she needs no sustenance. Instead, she feeds on the energy of deeds, evil fuels her power to punish, while good restores balance. She sleeps only when the Chromosphere is silent, when the actions of the universe momentarily leave no weight upon the scales.

Her home is the Cavern of Silent Echoes, perched atop a mountain chain in Aequoris. Marble steps lead to countless halls where mirrors float. Each mirror reflects a different world, and every world has its own laws and chaos. In the deepest Strait of Consequences, Karma observes how actions ripple across countless realities.

Karma neither creates good nor evil. She is Balance, a judge who intervenes only when the scales tip too far to one side. She enters our world in moments when justice is blind, when human laws fail, and when pain and suffering cry out to the stars.

She works in shadows, in silence. Her punishments are not immediate but are precise and calculated. When a cruel man torments the innocent, Karma appears to him in a dream, not as punishment, but as a mirror. She shows him the pain he has caused and lets it simmer in his mind. When someone lies and steals, their own deceptions eventually become their fate, a web from which there is no escape.

To her, justice is simple: you reap what you sow. But she also understands human frailty. She is not cruel; she offers opportunities for redemption. Those who sincerely repent and strive to correct their mistakes can escape her harshest judgments. But for those who persist in their wrongdoing, retribution will always find them, if not in this life, then in the next.

Karma comes from a time when the world knew no laws. She was created as a part of Balance, an essence materialized from the need to regulate chaos. She enters our world through cracks in space and time, appearing when most needed. Those who have seen her speak of a woman cloaked in shadows, her gaze piercing straight into the soul. Karma visits and reveals the truth... a truth not everyone can bear. After her intervention, only silence remains, and a sense of inevitability, as if everything has finally returned to its rightful place.

Karma is not merely punishment but a lesson. Her world is different from ours, for there, no one can hide behind lies or masks. Everything is revealed, every deed carries its weight, and all that has been broken must be made whole. Her existence reminds us that though the truth may seem distant, it will always find its way to the light.
