Tiež si SIngle?

Are you Single too?

Martin Repa

Morning is ideal for the hunt. The prey will be the Singles. Not for meat, but for fun. They are quite funny.

Small creatures living in the jungle. One leg, one arm, and one eye. I watch the herd. They constantly hop to maintain their balance. They wave their arms and bump into one another. They don’t see me. With their limited spatial vision, they struggle to navigate the jungle. That’s good; the hunt can begin.

I approach. All my senses are heightened. I grip my spear tightly. I know they won’t escape. I’ve hunted them a hundred times before. They can’t hop quickly while pushing through the dense jungle undergrowth. They can’t judge distances properly.

But today, they seem different, calmer. I leap out of the tall grass and shout to confuse them. They turn around. They see me. But… they’re not frightened, as usual. Suddenly, they do something unexpected. They form pairs, grab each other’s hands, and… run. They don’t hop, they run. I stand there in stunned silence. The herd quickly vanishes into the jungle. The Singles have formed pairs. Today, there will be no fun.

I return to the settlement. I sit next to our shaman and tell him about today’s events. The shaman just smiles and says:

“Did you think the Singles would remain that way forever? Evolution doesn’t stop. A Singlo must eventually become a Pair. That’s what they were made for. A Pair is a higher stage of evolution. A Single is restless, hopping here and there, unbalanced, with limited vision, and often hunted. A Pair, on the other hand, is stable, moves faster, sees more, and is difficult to catch. They know the gaze into each other’s eyes and the touch.”

“So, what am I supposed to do now?”

“Don’t worry. There are still plenty of Singles left!” the shaman grins.
